I can't find a firm answer on this, and hope someone close to an Apple store can ask for me (or a first owner).

Can the new iPod combined with the universal dock, remote, and TV out cable send a picture of the interface to the TV? IE, can you see the menus and such on the TV with this setup to then navigate via the remote?

This would make the near perfect living room music setup, allowing you to have your entire music collection on the device, then also playable from the sofa without getting up to stare at the iPod screen. It's also a great substitute to forking over the money for a Mac in the entertainment center.

after watching the presentation it appears the interface is displayed on the television.
my question is say i have a video file that is widescreen (say a movie railer) and try to play it on the iPod...will the iPod just crop it? will it not play it? and if it does play it will it output the uncropped or cropped video to the tv?

I would like to know how long videos you can play, and if you can put your own movies on the ipod and not only those form iTunes..

yes you can put your own movies on the ipod as long as they are the correct specs. there is a new setting in QT Pro "export to ipod" that makes that a breeze.

I saw that too, but Jobs said it was a special iPod wired in. The iPod he held seemed to have a weird black cable coming out the bottom for that. And during that presentation, it was never clear if the interface on the TV is going to be available to consumers.

i dont think steve meant it was a special setup or anything when he said hotwired. that was a HD projector and he probably had some special HD custom hookup for the iPod to connect to it. i think the interface was supposed to be there. oh well, hopefully ill know next week

well whats a normal tv? 320x240 I think. and HD is 720x480, so it hsould look fine even on a HD tv, just not widescreen.

Err.. no

Native PAL resolution is 704x576, while HD is usually 1280x720. All HDTV's are widescreen.

I think Steve's words were "we've got a hotwired iPod here."
I do not believe the iPod's interface is sent out to the TV at all. No way.
