hey i was wondering is there some sort of peice that can connnect an ipod to a regular sound system. Is there any kind of adapter. If so where could i find it thanks

you can pick up a headphones jack to RCA adaptor at radio shack for around 6 bucks

There are a number of adapters that go from a mini headphone plug to a pair of RCA plugs, some marketed specifically for iPods. You'll want to get one that has a long enough cable so you can connect the RCAs to the back of your amp and still have the headphone end somewhere convenient for your iPod.

I'd love to see a Dock with an RCA output and a power input, so I could play my iPod through my stereo as long as I wanted.

I've got a 3G iPod... I have a dock and the long firewire cable (the one with the dock connector on one end and a 6-pin firewire connector on the other) connected to it and the firewire AC adapter. The Apple dock has a mini-jack audio out, and I've got a mini-jack to RCA cable set running from it.

So, it's exactly what you want, ghporter.
