I was snooping around at the Apple website, and noticed something that really caught my eye. Many of us are excited because of the new iPods supposed 20 hour battery life. But guess what? That's the estimate on the larger 60GB iPods. The 30GB iPods? On the Tech Specs page, it says it has up to 14 hours of music playback - not 20.

Sneaky Apple. Sneaky.

This disappoints me because I don't want or need a 60GB capacity, but the 6 hour difference in battery life is definitely something to consider now. I suppose I can see Apple's thought process though - the 30GB model is for those who want a good amount of space but a lot less bulk. When you go up to 60GB, only "serious" music fans want that huge capacity, meaning they'll sacrifice a bit more portability for GB's of storage. The solution? Make the 30GB considerably smaller than the 60GB (or even the 20GB w/color display), but cut back battery life due to it's size.

Oh well.

I read something similar like this nearly everyday. Do you think iPods are only for music? You do realize that is it an excellent external HD too?

The 60 GB is the best deal in $/GB. At $370 (with edu discount) the 60 GB iPod is only $6.12/GB. The 512 MB shuffle is $200/GB. The 4GB Nano is $75/GB.

Plus, with video capabilities now, you have to remember that it will only hold 150 hours of video.
