Last Christmas my wife bought me a 4gen 40 gig ipod. The one with the black and white display. This is my second ipod. I had a 2nd gen 20gig which i had filled up and wanted more storage. Anyhow by February of 05 i was having problems with the scroll wheel. I took it to the apple store and they fixed it temporarly. After a couple of weeks it was having the same problems so i took it back. This time they ordered me a new one through the warranty program. It came in a few days later and I they gave me a new 40 gig ipod. A few weeks go by and the new one has the same issue but the scroll wheel does not work at all. I take it in again to the Apple Store and they order me a new one. 7 Months go by with no problems and then in september the thing just dies. The little iPod face comes up on the screen with a frown. I take it back to the Apple Store once again, and they guy tells me the Hard Drive failed so he goes to the back and gets me another 40gig ipod. The new one was working great until last week when again the Hard Drive starts flipping out on me and only works after resetting the thing about 5 times. Again I take it to the apple store and the they know who I am at the genius bar by this point. The guy takes the Ipod goes in the back for about 10 minutes and comes out with a brand new 60gig ipod with color screen (Unfortunatly not the video ipod). Unlike previous replacements they actually give me this one new in the Box. I am totally impressed with Apple's support. Instead of giving me the run around, like most companies do, they actually made sure that I left the store each time as a satisfied customer. Currently I'm sitting at my cube at work rocking out to my new ipod. I doubt I will ever buy a computer from another company for the rest of my life.

nice story. you know, except for the part where 283 40GB ipods failed on you in a row.

my 40GB has had no issues, but i know of quite a few who had the same experience as you with replacement after replacement. glad to hear yours ended well.

Where do you live because I'm moving to wherever your Apple store is... Southpoint customer service is abysmal.

i agree. i had a guy who gave me crap on a hinge that would be sticky every now and again. i'm not talking lightly sticky. i'm talking loud creak to even frozen hinge syndrome

in any case. i was given **** about how it was normal (not being able to close the lid is NOT normal, but i went to another store and they took care of it. now it is as good as new. if i have any more issues with apple products, i'll be taking it to the second apple store.
