The hard drive on my Powerbook was dying last week. So I backed everything up as quickly as I could--including my iTunes music folder. The hard drive died the next day. A new drive was put in and I reinstalled everything, including copying my music folder back into the iTunes folder. My daughter plugged the iPod in and it updated. Now all the purchased music is gone and iTunes will not load it back onto the iPod. Is there a way to solve this--a lot of money is tied up in the purchased music.

Did you re-add the music into your iTunes library? Try just dragging the folder with your music into the iTunes window. Oh, and make CD-ROMs or DVD-Rs of your music RIGHT NOW!

The problem is just with the purchased music. All the music, purchased from Apple and copied from my CDs are in the Library again. Its just that the update removed the purchased music. Do you have to drag all the purchased music back into the purchased music section from the Library for iTunes to recognize it?

Maybe I don't understand your problem. Is the purchased music in your iTunes music library and playing properly?

Thanks, lots, Icruise, for the help. I didn't even think of trying to play the problem songs. When I tried one it asked for my password. Everything was authorized, the iPod updated and all is well again. My daughter and I will both sleep better tonight!
