Is this possible or coming? I want to edit up podcasts whilst on the road. Have been able to do this for years on minidisc. If its not available yet.. is there a iPod SDK so I can look into writing something to do this.. is it likelyl possible?

Pretty unlikely at the moment, but if the new better recording abilities of the 5G iPods cause a lot of people to start using them for serious recording, they might introduce that kind of feature. Don't forget that this is the first generation of iPods that have actually been able to do decent quality recording, and the accessories required to actual use the recording aren't even out yet.

Man, alot of us converting from MiniDisc are hanging out for this, were in real limbo land. I just want to reprogram a button so when I press it the track is split.. not rocket science!

Apple offers a free beta app for adding chapters to Podcasts and enhanced Podcasts.

Edit: In iTunes > Podcasts, click on Add a Podcast then the Learn more about Podcasting. At the bottom of the screen is a link for the Podcast Chapter Tool (beta). Haven't tried it yet, but haven't heard anything bad about it from other sites.

Unfortunately, thats not much use for most sources, i.e.

Editing other peoples podcasts
Editing Analog radio shows recorded with a RadioShark
Editing Web streamed radio shows
