My listening buddy is now a few thousand miles away on the other side of Australia. So we can trade music and keep up with what eachother is listening too, I want something that can be posted.

Obviously the iPod nano is a safe here, but what about the disk based pods? If theyre turned off, doesn't the hard-disk lock? Or is this still unsafe?

That said, I think CD-R or DVD-R would be a much better and safer way to send music...

Pretty much all modern HD's automatically park their heads in a safe position when they're turned off. In fact, I think that the only HD I remember that didn't park automatically was on my wife's 386 PC while we were still in college. Just try and keep your iPod's original boc around, that should provide sufficient protection for shipping.

Anyway, use CD-R or DVD-R, as long as your friend has a computer on the other side of the world to read them. Not only would that be cheaper to send, but the customs inspectors will be happier...

Plus, then there's the whole "Getting music OFF the iPod" thing to worry about.

DVD-R/RW would be much easier. And cheaper!
