It's the same experience as it was with the nano. You have got to see it in person to realize how small it is. The 30 GB 5G is 2/3 the thickness of a 4G 20 GB, that's just incredible. In contrast to the flash based iPod nano it's even more surprising. I mean, there is a 30 GB harddrive in this little thing.
I'm glad to see that Apple is taking such great benefit from the iPod sales. It must be a dream for them to be in the position to participate in the HD design.
All in all, the new form factor is a good evolution. go, Apple!

I see no difference in size between the 60GB vs. my 4G 20GB.

That is because the 60 is a beast.

My 60 Gig is about the same size of my old 1g 10 gig model withthe exceptions of the thickness being about half.

it's so beautiful that you don't want to touch it! I still have the plastic on the face because there are no cases yet. Anyone know when 5G cases will be available?

Speck has their cases coming in November.
I'd love to get a ToughSkin for the iPod video....
My 20GB iPod photo is protected in a ToughSkin so that's what I'm sticking with....

I went into the local Apple Store a few days ago with the intent of buying a 60GB white model. While there, I had my first hands-on experience with the black one.
WOW.
They were out of them so I placed an online order. Gotta have the black one. Gotta! And gotta get the 60GB due to all the por... er... I mean, uh... socially educational documentaries I intend to load onto this tool of higher learning.

To dislike Sinatra is a sign of highly questionable taste. To dislike the Beatles is a serious character flaw.

hmm... I would love to replace my rev 2 iPod with a new one. Getting a 30 Gig would do me, and its super small....
I just can`t wait to see what people`s over reactions are in a month to any scratches that may appear.

Hey crooner,
Do you mean highly informative documentaries like this?

This made me laugh..... Sales of video ipods are gonna go through the roof! Well, I imagine alot of companies are gonna find a way to ride on the iPod bandwagon. WMV will not be the file format of choice for lo-res smut. It's all gonna come out in h.264 format now.

Nice. I bought the 60GB mainly for the higher battery capacity, but it's exactly the same size as my 20GB 3G, so color me happy.

I just purchased the 5G 60 gig this evening.
Now, there is a slight difference in depth (thickness) between that and the 4G 20 gig . . . not significant enough to be noticed with a cursory glance, but it does exist.
However, to appreciate the difference you need hold the 5G and then hold the 4G 60 gig, or even better, the 3G 30 gig. Then you appreciate the difference in size . . . the older, "capacity-models," simple feel inelegant and clunky.
I have a Shuffle for the gym, where every gain in size is welcome. But the 5G has hit the sweet spot in terms of file back-up, portability, and elegance.

I'm still contemplating the 30 (thinner), or the 60 (plenty of space, more battery). I already know which color, though (black, of course).
