My internet connection crapped out this afternoon, so I connected my PowerBook to my RAZR via bluetooth to get online. I was also listening to my iPod at the same time, and it was on the desk right next to the RAZR. Much to my surprise, I saw the iPod's screen light up and the volume starting going down, all without my touching the iPod at all. I also heard some interference sounds in the earphones. After a little experimenting, I determined that the phone was interacting with the touch wheel (nothing happened when I had the iPod on hold). The RAZR seems to be badly shielded. I've heard it cause interference with speakers as well, but I've never had it actually control anything. Anyone else notice anything like this before?

It seems there was no ghost involved after all! According to a few sites, many iPod exhibits this behavior. The touch wheel is indeed too sensitive to interferences, even after it passed all appropriate certification.

I was surprised to stumble upon this story on a non-tech news source, as it was not published yet in the Mac community! Here are the links:

So THAT is the reason why the ROKR doesn't have a click-wheel LOL

Could it be a conspiration of Apple and Verizon to oust Cingular from the iPod market? <suspense>!

There have been a few reports of RF interference between GSM cell phones and the 5G/nano iPods.

Ya I was walking down the street when I received a call to my phone in my jacket pocket. My 5G iPod was in my jeans pocket and its volume cranked to max in under a second. Scared the **** out of me.
