for example, i have some Friends DVD, should i rip each episode individually, or rip the entire DVD as a whole? I heard that ipod takes up more battery power if you have large files, is this true? and its better to have smaller files? I know its true with music files, but not sure about video... anyone know?

It sounds like you're asking about ripping them individually for battery life. That's irrelevant. Do it for your own conveinence, if anything. Video will drain the battery no matter what. The reason continuous playing music doesn't drain as quickly is because the HD only fires up long enough to read the music into memory. That's really can't be done for video because there is so much more data being processed.
