I got a black 60GB 5G and am loving it. Using the video feature far more than I thought I would. I can't wait for someone to come out with a matching, black, little speaker unit to plug into the headphone jack so I can just hand it to someone to watch a video I've made without having to use headphones.
Onto the reason for this post...
After a full charge - we're talking overnight here - the battery level indicator will almost instantly show one, first incremental sign of drain. Not sure if I’m explaining that right. Basically, the little teeny-weeny battery icon on the upper right of the screen will start to show less juice.
This concerns me as my 40GB photo's battery level wouldn't start to show any drain for quite a while whereas the 5G does so soon. I'm wondering if others have seen the same behavior or if my 'Pod has a lame battery.
I'd really appreciate it if you folks can tell me what kind of battery performance and indication you’re getting. Thanks!

I've learned not to put too much stock in any iPod's battery indicator. How much battery life are you actually getting? Have you tried watching video until the battery dies? I've had similar experiences with my 60GB black, but I'm getting good battery life (more than 3 hours for video) so I don't let it bother me.

Mine does the same thing, but alas it seems to stay there for quite awhile before moving again. I don't recall yet running out of battery charge watching a movie yet.

The iPod's battery charge indicator has never been too reliable in my experience. I had a first generation 5gig and now a 3G 40gig and both had the same issue. I can charge them for hours, then unplug, the indicator shows the battery as half empty. Turn it off then when I start it back on, it will show an almost full battery. The only thing I care about is when it becomes very low, that's most of the time more accurate and it tells me that I need to plug it in very soon.

All that matters is total battery life. Time it and then start worrying.

I've had the same experience with my 5g white 60 gb ipod. But it seems to keep playing when the battery indicator shows empty, so I'm betting on the indicator isn't too accurate. Although, since the battery does last quite long, its hard to test it, who wants to sit and watch their ipod battery drain?

The battery indicator on my 20 GB 4G isn't accurate either. It seems worse when it's first turned on, after a little while it seems to correct itself. You'll soon get an idea of how long the battery will last and start to rely less on the indicator.

The battery indicator on my mother's 1G mini is pretty inaccurate at times. My hypothesis is that failure to sufficiently discharge the battery prior to a recharge will cause the icon to report inaccurately.

Uhh... that and all the pod-porn, of course.
