I might when I purchase my new 5G iPod, in black. I was at the Apple store recently and it looks like the click wheel on the black model had a nice "ring" from all the finger oil on it. It wasn't blatantly obvious, but it did have me considering a white model instead.

Any owners of a black Nano or 5G iPod have any noticeable finger oil residue on their click wheel? Just curious. I hate the idea of covering it, but I don't want a bunch of finger oil left behind when I consider selling it in the future.

Anyone

I haven't noticed anything like that on mine.

Not noticed anything like that, however...

Since all the things about scratches on the nano, I've not taken the protective seals off of the screen and wheel and just stuffed a proporta(.com) skin like case over it. So, I'm not sure I would even notice anything like that

Good question.

I can't say enough good things about the invisible shield I put on my new black nano. I can wipe it off on my shirt and not even be worried that the screen will scrape a button . . . but I have to admit I don't like the feel of the plastic. It's just a pet peeve that'll have me eventually getting the version that leaves the click wheel exposed. (I noticed keychainpod.com has a version that just covers the screen, so there's all kinds of options if you want to protect it).

My guess is that the click wheel will eventually show a lot of wear, but from the responses so far, it doesn't sound like the black click wheel is any more of a problem than the white. It's the rest of the case that makes the white version sturdier than the black.

I covered my click wheel after trying it without the cover. I quickly realized that I'd have some perfect portions of the screen where the 3M Scotchguard shield was, but those areas uncovered would be all beat up. It is perfectly usable, and also protected from the occasional drop of rain.

I used to carry my 4G (white) iPod 'naked'. I never noticed any discoloration or other problems with the click wheel. I now use a Sleevz to prevent scratching. It does cover the wheel. I've been very happy with it.

I've never covered mine up in the past, either. I used my 4G 20GB w/ color display all the time, dirty fingers or not, and didn't notice a single mark from my hand. I'm just worried that since the click wheels on the black versions are so much darker, that oil and residue will be more obvious. Frivolous and superficial to worry about, I know.. but I'm kind of OCD about these things.
