this is a paste of an information from Macosrumors.com:

"The far more powerful, widescreen, Airport/WiFi-enabled iPod we've previously discussed could be closer than prior predictions suggested; apparently, Apple is performing market research presently to determine whether to introduce this as a replacement for, or complement to, the existing high-end 5G iPod. This feature-rich "6G" would be significantly thicker and generally larger than the 5G, bucking Apple's recent trend of miniaturization and suggesting a possible new high-end iPod that would be added to, rather than replacing, the 5G. Cost could be as high as $500 for the first version depending on how soon it's released; more details soon to follow"

I don't know how reliable that is, but if it's true, it's going to piss off a lot of recent 5G buyers.

Personally, I don't ever believe anything those guy(s) at macosrumors say, unless its something that they've copied from another website.

The chances of this showing up any time soon are pretty slim, and the chances of it replacing, rather than supplementing, the current iPods are even slimmer. But you never know. I'll be first in line to buy one when it does show up!

i really doubt this. it really falls out of the ipod category. my opinion, if this is true, its not an ipod.
second, if this is a supposed 6g ipod, it wont be priced at 500...they will keep their current price line up...
third, i heard rumors on creativecow's podcast about itunes 7 being released in January and i expect new ipod with that itunes...but i doubt an ipod that has wifi. i would believe a thicker ipod only if it will feature a widerscreen with dvd quality (720x480p) quality...

I'm sorry, but the last time Mac OS Rumors had ANY sort of credibility (real or imagined) was in around 1998.

Forget it. Complete speculation with NO inside info.

I doubt it, but Apple can rip anything out of the bag.

We'll just have to wait and see.

Recording from TV, substantially larger size/weight, and an interface that runs in fear and scurries under a large rock when the iPod is even so much as mentioned are "hot features"?

Okay.

About the only thing that the Archos has going for it in relation to the iPod is the screen. Admittedly, that's a biggie if you're going to be using it primarily for video. I don't think recording from a TV or other video source is a huge attraction for most people.

recording from tv is a good feature, and im almost certain current ipod users would use it if their ipods had this feature. the thing you're not realizing is that the ipod is a music player that also plays video, the archos is more a movie player than music player, sure they do both..but its what they specialize in that accounts for their size and so forth.
