I have some movies that I put onto my new iPod video. These are approximately 600MB in size each. When I play them, they end up hiccuping. The movie will look like it's paused without the pause symbol, but then it will pick up again about five seconds later. I don't believe these movies are bad quality, because they're ripped from DVDs. When I go back to the part it hiccuped on before, it appears to play through just fine. Does the iPod Video have a problem with larger movie files or is this just me? I haven't tried shorter movie files just yet. Is there a place people post short clips that I can download for free to test that?
Thanks in advance for any replies.

What settings did you use to encode the files?

I honestly don't know, because my friend actually did these for me. I just gave him my DVDs and he took care of it for me. Is there a way I can check on the file?

He probably used too high of a resolution and the ipod is having trouble decoding it on the fly

That's what I'm thinking as well. You'll have to ask him what software he ripped it with, what settings he used, etc. in order for us to fully diagnose the problem, though.

I noticed this behavior when trying to 'rewind' while watching a video. My thought was that it had to do with finding a key frame in the data, which is PRIOR to the point in the clip you want to watch. Hence the pause in playback as the iPod looks back further. It is consistant on my iPod.
Not sure why you would see while playing forward.
Any one else notice this 'freeze' while rewinding?

I've noticed these pauses when playing videos as well... Encoding at a lower bitrate (400kbps H.264) seems to help, but even the Pixar videos I bought from the iTunes store pause occasionally.
