i use a powerbook to load my songs onto.
once theyre there, in the itunes music folder, can i create new folders within the itunes music folder to organise folders into. or can i create folders elsewhere too, if i want, to put the mp3s into? i'm sure the answer to this is yes, but i just want to check in case the thing is set up to handle files without me doing that and i go and mess things up.
also, when i insert a cd, it automatically downloads it as files into the itunes music folder - can i tell it to choose a particular folder within the itunes music folder depending on where i want the music from that particular cd to go?
ta.

It's generally best to just let iTunes organize your music for you. Don't worry too much about what the folders are like -- organize your music via the ID3 tags and playlists.

i have some albums which i want to have duplicate copies of - because in some cases theyre incomplete albums and in other cases complete - there's a lot to go through and sort out whats what and it'd be easier just to create new folders. if i do so would i be messing anything up?

I agree that it's best to let iTunes organize the music. If you want to make copies I would suggest making them outside of your music folder so iTunes won't see them.

Or if you mean that you want to separate the complete albums from the incomplete albums inside iTunes, then make a playlist for complete albums and another for incomplete albums.
