Restore it using the iPod Utility.

With "an" iPod, or with "this particular iPod?" It may be that the PC hosed the disk instead of reformatting it.

If you use the iPod on an a Mac only, there is no advantage. But it lets you use the iPod on a PC as well as on a Mac.

Don't have a recent iPod but I thought they all come in Windows-friendly formats now?

If not, and if you wish to make your Nano work with Windows too run the software restore under Windows so you'll get a FAT Nano

Good luck!
