I need a flash drive to transfer files back and forth from home to school. I use an iBook at home and we just use plain old Dells at school. Instead of buying a regular flash drive, I was considering getting an iPod shuffle so i could use it as a flash drive as well as always have a little bit of music with me.
My question is, if I configure the shuffle on my iTunes at home to enable disk use, does iTunes have to be installed on the Windows PC to see it as a flash drive? Basically, can I use it as a flash drive at home and at school on a bare bones computer without having to install iTunes or fiddle with any preferences in Windows?
Thanks for your help guys.

Although I haven't actually tried this (don't have a shuffle) I'm pretty sure that once you set it to be usable as a hard disk you can just plug it in to another computer and use it as a flash drive.

Yep. Pop it in iTunes, go to Preferences > iPod, select 'enable hard disk use', then deselect 'launch iTunes when this iPod is connected'.

Then select how much space you'd like to allocate with the slider, and voila.
