Everything is working fine with my iPod except of its charge time which seems to be too short.
Apple says on it's site that it takes 4 hours to fully charge an iPod. Mine is fully charged in 2 hours. So I'm wondering if there is really a problem or not. I don't really know how long a charge lasts on mine. But I know for sure that it last for over 8 hours. The only test I did was with the photo slideshow with music. The battery lasted for 2 and a half hours. After that I got bored and shut it down. It wasn't fully discharged though. I could still listen to music for a few minutes. Apples test gives 3 hours for the slideshow. So what is really going on here?
Can it be charged in less time than the 4 hours apple gives?
I'm using the wall adapter to charge it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

It can be charged in less than the time Apple gives, surely. Especially if it's not the very first charge.

I wouldn't worry about it, it seems like your iPod is fine.

I think this is the difference in the power output of the AC/DC chargers vs USB bus power output. I use an AC/DC charger and with the iPod on it's very little slim red battery line, basicly almost dead, it takes just a bit over two hours to charge. After a charge I can play music on the way home and back to work, and then still watch long movie on it and then repeat the process.

i recently got a new 30GB 5th gen. ipod, and everything seems to be working fine, except it seems like it doesn't hold its charge nearly as long as it should. its only a couple weeks old, but the other day, it said it was fully charged, and after about 3 and a half hours of just listening to music, the battery was dead... the 5th gen 30GB boasts of 14 hr battery life, so i don't know if it is a physical problem with my ipod, or if there is just something that i am missing.. if anyone could give me some advice, it would be appreciated

I've read on some other forums that it may take one or two FULL battery cycles (Full discharge and 4 hour charge up) for the battery to be properly calibrated. Battery life also depends on how often you skip songs, if the EQ is on, how loud your volume is at, what your backlight timer is set to, and if you are watching movies or not.

I know that apple says that full discharges are bad, but I've read a lot of users experiencing posted battery life after a few discharges. Once a month isn't necessarily bad...just not all the time.

As for myself, I ran a test. I turned it onto shuffle all songs and then repeat...turned off the EQ and put the volume at about 50% and let it run while I sleep. About 13 hours before it totally died, and that is on its first charge. So..not too bad.

My 30 GIG 5G iPod only takes around 2 hours to charge up via USB. No problem here.

Both my 60GB 5G and 20GB 3G charge in very reasonable amounts of time. And the 3G's battery is still as strong as it was when it was new.

Do you have the backlight on 24/7? This drains battery life significantly. If the EQ, Sound Check, Backlight and other power draining options are off, then call Apple and request service. 3 1/2 hours is way too short.
