I have a 4th generation 20gb ipod which worked perfectly fine till yesterday. While using my ipod it lost all power, it did not take a fall or a knock. I assumed it was just a case of recharging as the battery power was low at the time. I tried both recharging from my mac and from a mains power point but there is no sign of life in the ipod what so ever. There is no charging icon, sound of the disk spinning or error icon....so its current state is that it is as dead as a dodo......

The warranty has just expired so I would appreciate if anyone could suggest a remedity, course of action to take before sending it for repair.

Thanks in Advance

I've heard pressing the center button and the play button at the same time will reset the pod, and you might be able to start over with the pod then.

I would suggest you borrow somebody else's charging unit for a quick test. Did you use the same USB/Firewire cord between the ipod and the Mac and then from your ipod your main power? Your USB/Firewire cord could be the culprit. Good luck!
