I just purchased an ipod 30gb video. I have downloaded everything to my computer and have music in my itunes and plays on the computer but the songs do not transfer to my ipod. The ipod is hooked up to the computer and charging. When i go to menu of the ipod and select songs or anything....there isn't anything there. Does anyone know why this is?

Create a playlist in iTunes. Drag the music you want to that playlist. While your iPod is hooked up to the computer, drag the playlist to the iPod. The iPod should show up on the right hand side in iTunes. Make sure you actually eject the iPod before disconnecting it. There is an eject button lower right hand of iTunes.

It should automatically sync with your computer unless you have more music than your iPod can hold. Check the iPod preferences and see if "Automatically update all songs and playlists" is checked.

Edit: Just a guess, but you're not on a Windows computer are you? In that case you have to make sure that you install the iPod software that came with it or it won't be recognized by your computer (but it will charge).

Ack, never even thought about that he/she might be a Windows user. I just assume that most people here are Mac users. Also, if you have an older version of iTunes, it might not work either. I had an older version of iTunes, and when I got my 30gb, it made me update.

As for the auto update preference, I personally have that one shut off. I like to manually control what goes on my iPod, especially since my wife and I have very different taste in music.

Gotta install the iPod software for Windows to see the thing at all. GOTTA DO IT. That's why when you put in the disc that came with the iPod the first thing that happened was that it offered to install the iPod software.

You MUST have the software installed. It's a DRIVER that tells Windows how to talk to the iPod.
