Any time music or speech pronounces an "ess" sound, it goes static-y. the only solution is killing trebble on the ipod and boosting it on my radio (but i love the rock eq setting, and feel this is a huge sacrifice). Doe smy transmitted have a manufacturer defect? thx.

Well, it's an FM transmitter - so static and hiss incidents should be expected. I'm guessing your transmitter is used through the headphone jack? Your best bet would be to get one that utilizes the dock port on the bottom of your iPod instead - the sound quality is much better, from my own experiences. That way, you utlize the abilities of your car's stereo rather than the EQ settings on your iPod.

Are you using the Kensington FM digital transmitter/charger? We got one for Christmas and it seems to work just great. This one does connect through the dock on the ipod, and then to the cigarette lighter/whatever. I've not noticed any difficulties with sound -- in fact, we've been very, very pleased with the quality. (But I'm not a hard rock/pound out the base person, either. So that may be coloring my experience!)
