Have they updated the nano coating yet or do these things still scratch like a thing that scratches easily?

You may be waiting a very long time then... I believe Apple started bundling a soft leather case with their new iPods. This is their solution to the widespread scratching complaints they've recieved.
I don't think Jonathan Ive would be able to sleep at night knowing that was Apple's plan. He's a perfectionist. I think the nano rev B will be released soon, maybe even as rev A but in stealth shipping mode.

He slept just fine after the very first iPod came out and everyone said the nice shiny metal back scratched and fingerprinted 1 min out of the box.
