You need to have either Quicktime Pro or a series of programs called Mac the Ripper, Handbrake and Podner. These will allow you to convert video into ipod video format.

What happens is you encode the dvd with Mac the Ripper and then you can convert the dvd folder you get into one big file with Handbrake. Then you can use Podner to adjust the video to be compatible with the ipod video. I'm sure there's an easier way somehow, but that is what I do. Of course, it's all on the Mac, I am not sure how to do it if you have a Windows machine.

In Quicktime Pro, there's usually an option to convert a movie. The more recent version has an option specifically to convert to an iPod-compatible format (320x240 H.264).

Quicktime is the slowest thing you can get - it'll take all night - use handbrake and podner

I tried using the Quicktime Pro conversion for my iPod video, but the resulting file only shows video. How do I get the conversion to also play the audio?

I tried Handbrake and it would not allow me to convert the selected files.

That means that the original video file was muxed, meaning that the video and the audio track were 'flattened'. There are a couple of utilities that'll help you, a google search should get you what you need.

Handbrake is only for DVD conversion and works really well in my experience. It would help to know what files you're trying to convert.

To dislike Sinatra is a sign of highly questionable taste. To dislike the Beatles is a serious character flaw.
