All,

Has anyone ever used an iPod with an iPaq configured on the same laptop?

I am now the proud but frustrated owner of a video iPod, courtesy of Father Christmas.

However, I have an infuriating problem trying to get my Toshiba laptop to recognise it correctly. I had the synchronisation working briefly on Christmas day after following the instructions to the letter and then performing an additional reboot requested by the on-screen instructions.

Ever since, I have not been able to get the laptop and iPod to speak to each other correctly. When I connect, the message "Do not disconnect" appears on the iPod and never changes.

I have tried reinstalling iTunes and the apple iPod updater software on my PC, reset the iPod several times, and various permutations of the above. None of this produces a different result.

When I click on "safely remove hardware", I have "USB Mass storage device listed. Opening this lists both "Generic Volume" and "Apple iPod USB Device". Stopping either causes both items to disappear. When I load explorer i have a device simply called "Mobile Device" listed with my drives - is any of this normal???

I am trying to work out if I have a broken iPod, or whether I have to wait until I get my iMac 20" on January 11th to get the thing working?

Is it just me that has such a problem with bl**dy PC hardware - why can't everything just work???? AArrrghhh!!

To add a little more info to my question, I have upgraded MS Activesynce to 3.8 from 3.5, as I noticed earlier today that my HP iPaq is no longer recognised when I connect it to my USB attached iPaq cradle. It worked before the iPod s/w was loaded onto my laptop. I will not be able to check if the software update allows the iPaq to work again until I go to workk tomorrow (as I don't have my cradle at home).

Does anyone out there use an iPod and HP iPaq configured on the same computer.

Only a few days to wait for the decision on buying an iMac G5!!

I had problems with ActiveSync 3.8 so I've stuck with 3.7. I not only have a Pocket PC device connect successfully, I can also connect my iPod AND my Motorola phone through USB (I haven't tried all of these at the same time) and it all works. I'd go back down to version 3.5, or find 3.7 if I were you.

Thanks for the advice. My iPaq works again now I have upgraded to acticesync 3.8. I know this is a cop out, but I think I will wait until I get the Mac next week to see if I can get the iPod working.

I buy a new peripheral for a laptop that perfectly works perfectly, and the peripheral does not work. The result: Its not the peripherals fault, I'll spend another £1200 to give it the best chance of working!! Am I deluded??

is this what they call the Halo affect???
