Hey, Gang.
I got a weird one here...
I just got Paul McCartney's newest album (oops... dated myself there with use of tr word "album"). 'Chaos and Creation in the Backyard.' If you dig Paul you'll love this CD. It's his best stuff in a long time and laden with Beatle-esque hooks.
Anyway, the tracks on the CD are very hot - I mean mastered very loud. I imported them into iTunes first as MP3 files at 192. Playing through headphones (okay, I don't have "great" phones but they do okay). They're Sony MDR-EX81LP/B:

iLounge rated them an "A" for best phones under $50 and they sound really good on all tracks. Unfortunately, listening to 'Chaos and Creation in the Backyard' results in quite a bit of distortion. I re-ripped the CD as Apple Lossless top see if this would yield better results. While things sound a bit better, there is still noticeable distortion at times, even at lower volumes.
Any ideas on what to do? Would editing the tracks in something like Amadeus II and lowering the gain help? I'm skeptical as the distortion still shows up when played at lower levels. Has anyone encountered this phenomenon before?
BTW, adjusting each tracks individual playback level in iTunes did not make a difference.
Any help is much appreciated! Thanks.
