Hi,

I am trying to fix my friend's 3G iPod. I updated the software without erasing it, and it worked. I plugged it back in to charge it after the upgrade procedure, and when I unhooked to give it back to her, there was an image of the dock connector (the end that goes into the iPod) and an arrow, suggesting that I rehook. So I did. And from then on it didn't mount or do anything, and now it won't start up.

Any ideas? It won't go into disk mode, or any other function. I guess I have to take it to apple but I was wondering if anyone has witnessed this. I can't find anything on the apple support forums.

Tom

Something didn't go quite right with the update. Now it won't turn on at all? It may be frozen and needing a reset - that's the best case scenario. The two times my 3G froze it appeared to be completely dead, and I had to do the reset procedure a number of times. Here's Apple's support document on resetting iPods. Best of luck.

I had the same problem on my 3G iPod. I had to restore it completely using the iPod updater and then reload everything back on. Will it let you do that?

You need to plug it into power. Either firewire or the AC adapter. If it doesn't respond, restart it by holding menu and play down at the same time for 6 seconds.
