I use Handbrake to rip DVD videos to my iPod and here's the question...

I rip a music video and the video is fine but the audio has some popping in it, would anyone know how to fix so there is no popping?

What settings did you rip the DVD under? Particularly, what audio settings did you use?

Make sure your sample rate is 44100Hz. Bit rates for music depend on your personal taste... but I use at least 128 (kbps). Also, make sure you are using AAC audio.

I gave up on Handbrake. Every music video I encoded with it had the same audio problems. It's hard to describe, but it's like a warble in the audio every 5-20 seconds or so. Not at regular intervals, but often enough to be really irritating. I found many other people experiencing the same problem without a solution.

I found a commercial program for the Mac that cost $15 and it works like a champ. Look around and you'll find it. It's kind of slow but at least it works on the first try every time.

This issue is a known problem. It happens when you try to endode LPCM (or something like that) audio tracks. That's why you're getting pops, etc. This issue doesn't happen when you try to encode AC3 audio track on the DVD.

What's the name of the application you found that works?

To dislike Sinatra is a sign of highly questionable taste. To dislike the Beatles is a serious character flaw.

I have heard that before, but have never found any instructions on how to change from one audio track to another. I don't see anything in the options given prior to encoding. I admit that I may have missed it, but I'd rather use a program that doesn't have those issues.

Forty-Two DVD-VX Plus. You first have to rip the DVD using MactheRipper, then encode it with Forty-Two DVD-VX Plus. It's a time consuming process compared to using just Handbrake, but I've yet to have a file not transfer to my iPod, and the video/audio quality is always good.

Maybe Handbrake gives you more control over the quality of audio/video and has other advantages, but I just want to rip a DVD and get it on my iPod without fooling with a bunch of settings. Then, with Handbrake, I have to hope the bitrate hasn't spiked above the maximum and I have to do it all over again because now it won't transfer to my iPod.

Using MactheRipper and Forty-Two DVD-VX Plus has been a guaranteed, fool-proof process for me. It has worked every time.

Why not use DVD2Pod if you're not going to concern yourself with all the other issues?
It's as simple as "Put DVD in, press convert"
The only reason I use Handbrake is because I'm ripping TV shows and I need to rip episode by episode.

If DVD2Pod is just a stripped down version of Handbrake, won't it have the same sound issues we've been discussing?
