Hi,

My 3G iPod 20gb has recently starting skipping on certain tracks, jumping the rest of that track and going to the next.

This has got worse, so I did a HDD SCAN in the diagnostic test which finished (after many hours) with the message "HDD FAIL, 0x00000070, READ FAIL".

I have managed to use iPodRip to get my music onto my PowerBook, although the songs which previously skipped are now corrupt.

I then restored the iPod using the software update program, ran the HDD SCAN again, same error message. I used Disk Utility to format the whole partition on the iPod, then restored the software again, and did another HDD SCAN, same error message.

Is it same to assume that I need a new hard drive? I'm not in my warranty, so i'll probably just sell it for spare parts and buy a new one.

Your comments/advice very much appreciated.

Cheers,
Nick
