It's not.

http://www.isquint.org/

Which version did you try? It's been working fine since 0.7 for me.

And the answers in those threads aren't outdated at all:

Handbrake for DVD conversion, ffmpegX or iSquint for everything else.

is it normal for isquint to take over 6hours to convert a movie? and when converting a movie with ffmpegx , i thought it would be complete at 100%, but now its at like 107% and im confused.. im trying to get movies i already ripped to my hd to my ipod, so mac the ripper isnt needed, and handbrake wont convert my avi files

How long it takes depends upon your machine, the type of video, and what you're converting it to.

h.264 takes ages.

Are you saying that removing the ".ff" part of the filename will let them play on your iPod?

There is currently (as of iPod w/ video Software Revision 1.1) a BUG in the iPod software that broke playback of a number of videos converted with tools other than Quicktime Pro.

I suggest you either downgrade your iPod video to version 1.0 (instructions in the forum) or wait a little bit for 1.1.1.

This one is a handy app… can edit mpg/mpeg files that even with my QT Pro license I am not able to do.

i use isquint but if the dvd I ripped hav multipe VOB files
it does not put them together.
for example.
ifter i rip the dvd
the filed contaning the film are broken up
vob1
vob2
vob3......

when I add them to isquint it makes equally broken mpegs
mpeg1
mpeg2
mpeg3

any way to makethem one file whenI put them on my ipod?

sorry if its a sily question.
I just got the ipod video/isquint 2 days ago.......

What software do you use to rip DVDs?

Handbrake will rip directly from a DVD to an iPod-valid format at one go.

Handbrake works perfectly for the iPod. Just make sure you select the right resolution and if you are using h.264 encoding you have to select "Baseline".

Sounds like you did something wrong then, doesn't it? What DVD and what settings are you using? Why not try just doing one chapter as a test?

I've ripped dozens of DVDs using Handbrake and they're 100% set for my iPod.

I use this guide for the base settings, and bump up the bitrate if I want higher quality.

I use Handbrake too and I even set the video resolution to 480 x 352 and the bitrate to about 1500 and it works perfect... I can watch the videos on my iPod and on my TV and it still looks pretty damn good.

With these settings how long does it take you to encode and what is the final size of your movie?
