if i do so, and the mini fails within the next two years, and since the mini is discontinued, will they send me a nano?

Probably not. My friend's photo broke last month and they sent him back a photo, not a new video.

Apple has spare parts and spare minis. You might get a nano replacement in 1 year, 11 months from now, but no guarantee.
