Hi,

I have had a 4G iPod (20 GB) for about 8 months. I have an intermittant problem that the iPod will not turn on and I have to reset the iPod by holding the Select + Menu buttons for about 6 seconds. This is a pain because I loose my place on all the podcasts I have been already been listening. I have had this problem for at least 4 months. I keep the iPod firmware updated. I have done several complete software restores. I have tried both stopping the iPod and letting it fall to sleep, but the problem still intermittantly occurs on both scenarios.

I have not contact Apple, but feel like that is my next step (when I have time).

Is this normal behaviour?

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,
Kevin

I also have this problem (2G mini, 4 GB). Haven't found a solution yet.

Did you contact AppleCare for support with this issue?

I am trying something new that seems to be working. I am setting the "Hold" button on each time after I shut down my iPod. So far, I have not had to perform a reset. I'll update after a few days.

Well, the "Hold" button technique did not pan out. Time to take this puppy to the Apple Store for a replacement.

I finally found time to visit the local Apple Store to report this problem with my iPod. The "genius" was very nice to deal with. He indicated that the problem I was having was not common and replaced my iPod with a new unit. I did ask if I could "upgrade" to a 5G iPod. He replied that is a common question and that he was not allowed to make the upgrade. I am still very happy with the customer service.
