hi there,
i have a question for you. where do you live? anyone out there on some cold place? does your ipod work properly indeed?

i bought my ipod 5G just a day before i leaved to germany, where im currently studying. we're having low temperatures right now here, always below zero (celsius) but not beyond -8 or so (east germany is much worst, they're having up to -26!)

i know coldness can affect electronic devices to some extent, but to the point to make useless my new ipod, which i had in a pocket as i was walking down the city? it has happened twice already. the first time i panicked because i thought the ipod was defective (and to get it replaced from here would take a month or more).

the thing is, the ipod suddenly stops playing for no reason, and it shuts himself off completely. not a way to get it back, and it behavies as if it didnt have any batt left. as soon as you walk into some warm place, it comes back to life though.
this with a temp of just a few -celsius- degress below cero (and the ipod on his default bag and in a pocket).

is my ipod bad or is this normal?

it's cold and i can't listen to my tunes.

grüß aus D.

Here in Maine, USA, my daughters and I notice the same problem with our 4g ipods once the temperature moves to subzero (Celsius) numbers.

I use mine in -40C temps after it's been sitting for a few hours in my car in the cold and it works fine...the display is a little slow but besides that it works fine...I personally try and bring it in because I'm sure it's not good for the Hard drive.

I think the only way to do it is to keep the iPod under your coat, close to your body. You'd have to get the remote to control it, or just leave it on shuffle or something.
