I'm almost positive that it did several weeks ago. I can't remember which setting I changed, and can't seem to find any option that I can select to enable this function.

Any ideas?

You almost definitely have Disk Mode enabled - if you chose to do manual rather than auto update of your Library, that turns on Disk Mode. When your iPod is connected and iTunes is open, click on the iPod Preferences button on the bottom right of the window. You'll see you're on manual update. If you put auto back on, it will automatically unmount your iPod again, but you'll also not be able to connect your iPod to another account or computer without it trying to erase and synch to that computer instead.
