Ok, my ibook g4 is filled to the brim with music files and I really need to clear up some space. I know you can use an ipod as an external hardrive, but is it possible to save all of my music files on the ipod and delete them off of my computer? And then still play the files on my computer from the ipod?

If that's possible can someone tell me how to do it?

Delete the songs from your computer, but do not delete them from your iTunes library. When you connect your iPod, it will still update as usual and therefore keep all of your old music on the iPod. The drawback to this is you wont be able to play the songs using just your computer anymore (iTunes will put the "!" next to the song title and will say "cannot locate song file" if you try to play any songs you just deleted from your hardrive). Of course, you can still add new songs to your iTunes library and sync them to your iPod as well as play them on your computer.

Do not delete the music from your computer yet !!!

First connect the iPod and go the the iTunes preferences for the iPod.
Set the iTunes preferences for the iPod to Manually Manage Songs and Playlists.
This means that when you do delete the tracks from iTunes it will not automatically sync the iPod and delete them from the iPod.
Now when you connect the iPod no automatic sync will take place.
To add music you can load it into iTunes as usual and then drag the tracks on to the iPod.
You will be able to play the music from the iPod through iTunes with this set up as well.
