ok i brought my ipod over to my friends house and he has some music on his computer that i want on my ipod. i put my ipod in his dock and itunes popped up with my ipod's music. but i couldnt play anything from my library. i tried dragging the music from my friends documents and dropping it into my library. it diddnt work.
what i want to know is: is there a possible way to put some files from someones computer on your ipod without clearing all of the music fies that are already on my ipod.
sorry if this is hard to understand. any help will be much obliged.

Yes. Set iTunes to manually update, put the desired songs in a playlists, then manually upload the playlist to the iPod. Read iTunes' help for how to do this.

Note that the RIAA would probably have a fit over this practice, and rightly so; your copy is certainly not a legal copy, even if your friend lets you make it. HE can make copies for HIS OWN use under the fair use doctrine of U.S. copyright laws (which are extremely similar to most countries' laws), but YOU cannot.

You cannot sync your iPod to his computer, get music then re-sync it with yours.

However, you can set the iPod to work as an external disk unit (via iTunes) and manually move the song files over to the iPod, then manually move them from the iPod to your computer then sync.

Unless they are iTMS purchases, in which case you would need to authorize your computer to play your friend's songs.

This is a computer-generated message and needs no signature.
