I was at Best Buy tonight and talking to the sales person about the iPod video.

I mentioned to the sales person that I run and stuff. They told me to be very careful because the iPod video is a hard drive... and jolting it around a lot can and probably will damage the drive.

The rep said most people seem to get the nano because its flash memory, and not a drive.

I wanted to know how many people have had this problem with the iPod video. I like the thing a lot and have played with it pretty extensively. but i am not thrilled about spending close to $400 on this thing. If i am going to make an investment in this, I want it to not break with my hobbies.

Thanks for the input!

Hitachi's 1.8" drives are rated for 600G while operating... your motion while jogging poses no threat to them.

Also, an iPod is not an investment, it is a purchase.

mduell: do the other HD based ipods have similar tolerances such as the mini?

civic: I wouldn't worry about the drive unless the ipod is hitting something on your person while running. If it's on an armband or well secured I'm sure it will be fine, but I wouldn't have it loose in a bag where the whole ipod is hitting things.
