Hi,
I recently brought a ipod video 30gb video from my friend and i asked him about the specs. He said that for some reason it doesnt charge from the usb cord but only on the docking charger from the wall outlet.?? Could this be true, or was he liying and maybe the ipod doesnt work at all. Becuase im sitting here trying to get it powered up and it wont for nothing. When ever i plug it into my pc it does nothing. Not even a sign on the ipod to indicate that it is charging and my pc doesnt even pull it up. Or iTunes. But, when i put my ear next to the ipod when i plug it in i here this noise sort of like its charging. Then when i take out the charger the noise is gone. Could my pc not be giving enough power becuase i dont feel like buying a iDock. And i think hes lying cuase my ipod mini gets charged up and works good. But not this one. I reseted and everything.Helpppp!!
Oh yea, and did you guys know that u can charge ur ipod from ur ps2's usb port,,,COOL!!

I don't think so, I can charge it even with USB 1.1 ports, just don't use the ports in your keyboard, use the ones in the rear / front of your computer. (At least that is how it works with Macs, -the keyboard's USB ports are not powerful enought to feed the iPod- don't know about PCs, sorry).
Try giving a look here:

Best of lucks.

Wow, i guess my ipod read this thread and helped me becuase right after i wrote the thread my ipod responded when i pluged it into the pc. But, It shows the lighting bolt witht he half battery when i plug it in. I had it pluged over night, and came back to the same icon. When i remove the usb cable from my pc to my ipod it then shows the half battery witht the exclamation point. Please helpp. Could my battery be dead? If i send it to aplle would they fix this??

Make sure your coputer is not asleep when you are trying to charge it because some laptops turn off power to the usb ports when they are asleep. On my old powerbook I had to change the Energy Saver settings to tel it to never let the computer sleep at night (screen was ok to sleep) so I could charge the iPod. I finally got the USB block plus thing - much easier.

i get a much faster and fuller charge from the G4 tower than from
my powerbook. i think golfer099 is right about the ports shutting
power down when the laptop is asleep.

AFAIK you can not charge via USB while the Mac is asleep, but you can do it via FireWire.
