hi all
my friend is trying to sync an ipod that has been previously synced with a PC (i assume it's on Windows XP). he has new music and would like to re-sync the ipod and itunes. problem is, the computer doesn't see the ipod connection and the ipod screen stays on "Do Not Disconnect". he's tried downloading ipod/itunes updates and resetting the ipod but is still having that DND problem and the computer does not see the connection in itunes or My Computer.
and so he tries syncing with a brand new ipod, straight from the box. however, same problem occurs, perpetual "Do Not Disconnect."
can anyone make sense of this please? i really want to help him out because he now believes ipods are junk and it's just not true
thank you,
ichelle

If two iPods exhibit the same symptom on the same computer, I'd suspect it's the computer. Take the iPod in question to a different machine and try the synch operation there instead.

Eh... Windows is complicated in it's own special way. I vote computer. There can't be something wrong with two iPods, especially if one is straight from the box.
And yes I guess you do, or you could tell him to dump that computer and get a Mac, then everything will be all better. No just kidding I am glad everyone helped you out.

DND means that the iPod thinks it is connected as a drive. Once iTunes updates the iPod, you have to "eject" it to get the message to go away. Easy on a Mac, not so obvious on a PC.
You can also uncheck the "use iPod as a drive" in iTunes preferences and it shoudl automatically eject the iPod after updating.
