Hi, my hard drive crashed. I am a musician and music is my life. I have about 20GB of music on my ipod that is gone, and now only on my ipod obviously. I need to know the best software FOR MAC OSX that transfers files from my Ipod to the computer. I will really appreciate it, Thanks.

Also, I am concerned that when I plug my ipod in now, and it sees that there are no longer the files, that it will erase whatever I have on my ipod. Should I be concerned? If so, what should I do to prevent this?

I need something that is easy to use, reliable, and will preferably keep the file names in the organized way that they are on itunes, in other words, I have organized all the songs and artists and albums etc. on itunes, and it is the same way on my ipod, I just want to be able to go back to normal, instead of individually changing each song when I get them back.

macupdate.com search for ipod. There are tons of apps that will do this for you. As to how you tell itunes to manually manage songs when you can only access that option when the ipod is plugged in is beyond me and is why I refuse to use auto synching.
anyway, I have used elipodo, broken helix, yamipod, ipod access and none of them are amazing but I think any of them will work for you.

Ive also used ipodrip for a similar situation. I was moving the songs off my ipod onto my new pbook when I first got it.

Thanks, ipodrip seems perfect for me. Now all I need is a new external hard drive. First thing i do when I get back all my songs is backup everything onto CD.

I also found this thing you all might have heard of, ipodDisk, so I can play songs directly from my iPOd in the meantime.

If you ain't got at least two copies of it, it doesn't exist.
