ok, any advice would be appreciated:

I have a blue 4 gig mini ipod.

It is frozen on the APPLE logo. I hear a clicking sound like its trying to boot but nothing ever displays other than the APPLE logo and the dead battery logo when the battery dies.

I've tried resetting it 24 times by holding both the select and play buttons along with the menu button. nothing happens.. just the APPLE logo and a slight clicking sound like its trying to boot up.

Looking over Apple's website they will charge me 249.00 to "fix" it. (shock!!)

I can go to Walmart and get a 4 gig NANO for the same price for the same.

Advice? should I just chuck it? I like the style and color and size, if I send it back to Apple is there a chance I'd get the same color (light blue) back?

I guess the 4 gig NANO makes most sense?

or you could buy another broken ipod on ebay or here that has a working drive and swap them.

Sounds like the drive died. SSharon is right, that sounds like a sensible thing to do. If you're not confident opening the iPod sell the old one, then grab a nano.

I'm seeing three options:
• Replace the hard drive with one from a donor mini
• Get a used mini on eBay
• Get a nano, with a case!

The donor drive would be the cheapest route, but it's out if you're not comfortable disassembling your mini. I'd probably go that route because I love to tinker. I'm planning on repairing a 3G and 4G in the coming months.
