I'm curious to see how many videos people have converted from their own DVDs or other video files, and how many they've bought from the iTunes Music Store. My info is below:

Converted: around 2250 videos (162 movies and the rest are TV episodes). Yes, I am insane .
Bought: 6 videos (the first season of The Office)

Even encoded at 250kbps, these videos take up around 170GB, so I can't exactly have everything on my iPod at once. I have smart playlists set up for each show that give me the next 5-10 episodes that I haven't yet seen. This way, each show doesn't take up a lot of storage space on the iPod, but I can still get new episodes whenever I sync.

I also enjoy watching the shows on my computer. These files don't stand up very well to full-screen viewing unless you're way across the room, but in a window blown up to double their normal size they are pretty watchable. I will often have an episode of something playing while I do something else on the computer.

For the most part, I don't find buying videos from iTunes to be very cost effective, since you can usually buy the DVD for less and convert it yourself. It does take a little time (although my Intel iMac is pretty zippy at encoding h.264 video). But buying the DVDs means that you'll have the DVDs to watch on your TV, and you can re-encode from the DVDs at a higher resolution later on should you need to (when a better iPod comes out, for example). I am considering getting a "multipass" of The Daily Show, though, since it's a much better deal than the usual season sets.

So how about other people? Does anyone have me beat?

I have converted about a dozen movies and another 25 tv shows to watch on my iPod. Being in Canada, I can't purchase TV shows through the iTunes store but probably have another 25 music videos that I have purchased.

Bought: the first season of The Office and a few (five?) music videos. I also downloaded the free episodes of Monk and some other television show iTunes offered up (Conviction?).

Ripped: a bunch of Beavis and Butthead (whatever DVD it is that's out), all of Tex Avery (bootleg DVDs), all of Invader Zim, all of Freaks and Geeks and both "Best of Will Ferrell" discs.

Movies? About, oh ... probably just over 100 ripped, maybe 125. Quite a few of them I had previously encoded for my PSP, and they play alright on the iPod, so why go through the trouble again?

I have a bunch of miscellaneous videos also -- stuff I've made and stuff I've found on the web -- that I've converted for the iPod.
