My wife just got a Nano (from her school) which won't load on her old iMac running OS10.2 with a 233 mhz G3, 256 ram and iTunes2. Oh and it has the lovely sherbet orange shell.
If I can upgrade the OS to 10.2.8 are there any other issues that will need to be addressed to make the pod work? The disk info says there is iTunes 4 on the disk so that's okay. Is the USb1 port going to be a pain for loading? Is the processor a factor at all ? ... I mean we're talking about transfering data, so the connection speed should be the more critical aspect here I would think.
Any ideas for uprading this would be appreciated, as she is reluctant to buy a new computer just to use the pod.

Thanks,
Rickman

Make sure that that OSX is updated. USB 1.1 is a pain in the butt. It shouldn't be a huge seal though. USB 2.0 is preferable, but I wouldn't call it a must unless you would be using a video ipod (which you are not).

Hi Rickman,

I recently downgraded from a 12 inch AluBook to a 15 inch Tibook and have only usb 1 now for my shuffle.

It works ok but of course it takes a while to transfer the data. Average rate is .5 MB/second. This is no problem, if you load your favorites to the iPod and change only parts now and then (what I do). It will be hard, if you quickly decide in the morning to replace the whole library.

The shuffle has the disadvantage to use FAT 32 only. Maybe your transmission rate will be a little bit higher than mine if you format the nano as hfs+.

Update iTunes. You can have iTunes 6 on Jaguar.
