I am still ahving problems in regards to ripping DVDs to my iPod via Handbrake. I followed the instructions that are all over the web, and I STILL have toconvert them in iTunes for it to be played on the iPod. WTF!!? What am I doing wrong? Is there some sort of extra codec I need to d/l or install that I don't know about?
Settings: encoder = X264, Codecs = AVC/H.264 Video/ AAC Audio, Average Bitrate = 600kbps, double pass option. With those I am getting 3 hours to rip a 1.5 hour movie. Then, having to spend an hour or two to re-encode in iTunes. Very frustrating,,,
Thanks for the help,
jg

Hey,
I am not sure if you have tried this but you MUST resize the video to 320X240 when encoding in H.264...it cannot be any larger than that. To resize simply go to PICTURE SETTINGS at the right bottom corner of Handbrake. You wouldn't want your videos in widescreen either, so resize the video to 320X240 (uncheck keep aspect ratio, the screen is already small as it is, you wouldn't want it in widescreen) ... Encoder X264 MUST also be at "baseline profile". Audio cannot be over 160kbps. The video quality you could increase the bitrate to 760 (if you want)...If you've done all that and it is still not working try uninstalling Handbrake or updating it.. MAKE SURE X264 IS IN BASELINE PROFILE AND RESIZE YOUR VIDEO....
I also forgot, when the video is done, change the extension from .MP4 to .M4V then add it to your iTunes Library...

Thanks a bunch. I'll give it a try tonight when I rip some more content for my iPod. Now, if Apple would allow you to store your video content in another place besides your music folder so I could store that on another drive! My iTunes folder is now 50GB+!!

You can put your music/videos anywhere on any drive. But you have to uncheck the "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" option under the "advanced" iTunes preferences. Then you can drag any file anywhere to iTunes and it won't be copied to your music folder.
By the way, I can't agree that you should change widescreen movies to 320x240. Changing the aspect ratio would make things look quite distorted. You do need to make the width no greater than 320, but leave the height alone.
