I am mainly thinking about using it to watch movies on the plane so I don't have to carry anything else with me. I think I am fine with the small screen. Do any of you guys use it for this purpose? Do you end up hating the screen? I also have the new apline head unit with full speed and would use it for that as well, but mainly for traveling.

the screen is annoying to watch, fine details are hard to make out, and wide screen movies are even worse because your video is just about halfed, on the positive side it's cool to just be able to whip out a movie from your pocket and squint to watch it. i would wait for a better video ipod.

I got a video ipod at first more for playing music and I wanted black rather than white. I had experience years ago with the first small LCD TV's and thought I wouldn't really watch movies but my experience is that I love it. Really makes the commute on the bus go by quickly and those long road trips, especially at night, a lot more bearable. The screen resolution and clarity is fantastic it seems far better than you would have thought. I have watched widescreen and full screen TV shows and have no issues with that side of things. And it fits in your pocket which a large screen size like a PSP will never do.

I use the video function too. Truth be told, it kind of helps is you've seen the movie before and if you haven't I'd recommend watching it again on the big screen after you've watched it on the iPod, but as wferris says, the screen is excellent and clear.
It's not a TV substitute but it's great for travelling. The only thing that sucks when watching movies is the battery life, just under 2 hours.

The screen is fine. Admittedly, it's better for TV shows than for widescreen movies, but even for that it's not really a problem. I watch TV shows on the iPod all the time, even just around the house, because it's so convenient.

I'm a daily commuter, and for a long time my PSP was my best buddy.. lately it's been replaced by my iPod. Sure, the screen's tiny (even when just compared to the PSP), but I love the size and ease of use to it.

I'm not big on the videos (after all, I bought my iPod to store my photos, data, calender, and to LISTEN to music), but it's a great feature just to have.

IMO the iPod looks less 'bait' to theifs as well (atleast compared to the PSP)

Yeah the PSP's screen is beautiful but it always worries me that some is gonna like it too much and try and jump me for it.

The funny thing is that with an iPod Video, one would like to have his/her DVD collection as fullscreen versions… and the only DVD movie I have in such format is "Analyze this", it comes as 16:9 and Full Screen in one single disk.

i didn't think i'd use the video function too, but on flights and trains it has become very useful. the screen is clear and the sound is very good. at home, i'd rather watch on TV. but you can't take your TV everywhere.

Hmm, if you can, I'd wait a week or two before your purchase.
