I have a 1.83 GHZ MacBook Pro. I'm switching from Windows XP over to the Mac. I've had few problems making the transition...well, until yesterday.

I've moved all my music into iTunes for the Mac. My 4GB Nano was working fine, until I got the notice from Apple that there as a new iPod Updater available (version 1.1.1).

I downloaded it, and attempted to update my iPod. It failed, informing me that my iPod wasn't formatted for the Mac and said I'd need to "Restore" it in order to get the Mac formatting. I was slightly queasy at the notion of deleting my 900+ songs, but hey...I had them on iTunes, what could possibly go wrong?

The "restore" appeared to go fine. I shut everything down, restarted it, and connected my iPod, which the Mac recognized.

However, when I try to copy all my songs from my Nano Playlist onto the Nano, it freezes. It will appear to be updating a song (not always the same song...the "freeze" point is arbitrary), but will go no further. The iPod screen reads "do not disconnect," iTunes has the spinning beach ball, and I can't even Force-Quit the application.

I've reset the iPod, and re-run the updater with the same result. A frozen Mac and a Frozen iPod.

I don't know where to start troubleshooting... I don't know if it's a problem with iTunes, my Mac hardware, or the iPod.

Any ideas? It's all still under warranty so I'm not terribly worried about it, but I'd just as soon get it fixed myself and not be without my toys.

Thanks!

i would first perform the restore again,

then before you plug the ipod back in to the mac to sync with itunes, check the song that it froze on, and see if it plays fine in itunes

if it does play fine, re sync the ipod with itunes
if it doesnt, then delete the song and you will need to re import back into itunes via the source
