Hi
My 2nd Gen iPod, bought in December 2002 has 'failed'. I took it into the Apple Store in Regent St in London and a Screen and/or Circuit board failure was diagnosed. The best they could offer me was for me to pay £160 and I would get a repair. Not very enticing when a 30gig iPod Video isn't much more than this!
Now, although it's outside the one year warranty I feel it is not unreasonable to expect a lifespan of more than 3 and-a-bit years for what was a high-end £329 product. It was not sold as an item you would expect to be replacing every few years.
In the UK, under the 'Sale of Goods' act items should be of a 'reasonable quality' and you have up to 6 years in which make a claim - I have challenged Apple on this since I feel I should not have to pay £160 just to continue to use a product I bought for double this price only a few years back.
My question is has anyone else challenged successfully using this argument? Do you agree that I should expect a longer lifespan than 3 years? - particularly when I haven't travelled with it very much. In fact the member of staff at the Apple Store was amazed at what great condition the machine was in.. I would be interested in comments. I await Apple's response with anticipation...
