So in my trolling on ebay i happened to win a second gen ipod for next to nothing. great working condition they say, and the seller says i can return for a full refund if im unhappy, but thats beside the point.

obviously ill throw in a high capacity battery, but is it possible to get a 60GB Hard drive to fit inside? and work properly? ive seen 20GB, but alas, that is too small for me I just filled up my 40GB 4th gen, and i dont really want to buy a video ipod just yet, plus this will be a fun little project.

any thoughts, ideas or recommendations?

so apparently i can buy a 60GB hard drive to fit inside my 40GB 4th gen. which is awesome. because i love my 4th gen. it just works.

however. i really would like to make this 2nd gen into a 60GB. or at least a 40GB if the 4th Gen HD will work inside of it.

So - options are:

turn 4G into 60GB and use current working 40GB inside the 2G ( if that will work )
turn 2G into 60GB ( if it will work ) and keep 4th Gen as is
turn 2G into 20GB and get it cleaned up as much as possible and turn around and sell for profit. lol

How much do iPod-compatible 60gb hard drives run? I have trouble believing that this would be a smart thing to do compared to buying a new 5th gen iPod, unless you're just doing it for fun.

if im not mistaken, a 60Gb hd for my 4th gen ipod can be had for $200 or less ( with some shopping around )

the 40GB hd from the 4th gen will not work in the 2nd gen though.

i dont think this project will get off the ground much, unless i just turn it into a 20GB with a real high cap battery.

The predominant factor is the motherboard and what the motherboard supports. There are some 60GB drives that have the slim factor.
