Success!! I have discovered how to transmit a clear signal to my fm car radio 99% static free from my IPOD. I took a piece of wire from an old cell phone charger, two alligator clips, and some ducktape as my ipod fm transmitter signal hardware fix. However, the most important thing is how to position the hardware in your car to get a clear signal even in the big city.
After months of frustration while driving a cab with my Ipod and a Belkin Tunecast and then trying the itrip transmitter I was sure that the signal needed to be grounded. So I first tried to ground the signal to a piece of metal on the fare meter on the cab. It worked better but still there was too much static. I noticed that every time I touched the ipod or the alligatior clip the signal was better but not staic free. My arm would continually be tired from reaching over to hold edges of the ipod case velcroed to the dash. So giving up momnetarily I attached the alligator clip to the inside rear mirror visor adjustor clip over my head. I tested it out all night and it was 99% better even close to building which have MRI which disrupt signals.
The other end of the alligator clip and wire I jam between the ipod(touching the metal of the ipod) and the carrying case I bought for my clickwheel 20g Ipod. I use the ITRIP but also still have my Belkin Tunecast. I've noticed with the ITRIP that when I get a cellphone (velcroed to the dash also) call the ITRIP picks up the digital tranmission and I have to turn off the car radio and pause the ipod.

or for $30 you can buy an FM Hardwire kit from BestBuy that wires the signal directly into your FM Antenea connector. I just bought mine to replace an expensive and ill lived iTrip. Should have it installed soon.
