Hi Everyone,
Okay, I'm in need of some serious help. Here's the situation. I'm traveling around the world and am currently in New Zealand. I've brought along with me a camera and my new 60gig Video iPod to upload and backup my pictures. I've been doing this with the Apple Photo Connector, and so far everything has been going well. Unfortuneatly I've ran into a little problem. There's no more space available on my iPod harddrive. Shite.

Before I left I did two stupid things. First was I formatted my iPod for Macintosh since I have a Powerbook at home. I knew I should have formatted it for Windows but by the time I remembered I had it all full of music, photos, and everything and it was too late. The second thing was I put about 15 gigs of movies in iPod format on it, thinking I would watch them while I was traveling around. Of course I haven't found any time to watch them and now they are just taking up space I need. The only thing is, I can't figure out how to delete the movies off my iPod!

Traveling around I only have access to computers at internet cafes, and all these computers are Windows boxes . I've tried to plug in my ipod but it's not recognized. I've tried using a Windows program called Xplay but it could only recognize my music and my photos, I couldn't delete movies. I tried using a fellow travelers iBook and deleting the movies when they showed up in iTunes, but they were still on my ipod after doing this. Does anyone have any suggestions or tips for deleting these movies off my iPod. I may be able to get access to an iBook or Powerbook, but I'll probably be on a windows machine. If anyone knows a technique, or third party software/shareware/freeware that can enable me to delete these movies I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance, I can't wait to hear from you.

When you say you tried deleting them using someone's iBook, how exactly did you do that? Do you have your iPod set to "manual" synchronization?

How many pictures do you currently have on the iPod and how much free space did you start out with? Just curious.

Hi,
When I used the other guy's laptop I set my iPod to manual update and deleted the videos from a playlist I had all my Videos in. That was the only thing I tried. The wierd thing was when I browsed through the playlist on my iPod they where still there, nothing was deleted.
I have just over 1200 pics on there now, taking up around 4.5 Gb. I'm in New Zealand so I'm taking a ton of pics, and I have a 7 megapixel camera so some of the pics are pretty huge in size. I only have about a gig and half left of free space and that will be gone quick. I gotta get rid of some of these videos. Please help. Thanksss.

Well, assuming you have your iPod set to "manual" (and it sounds like you do) you should be able to delete the videos, but you don't want to delete them from a playlist. You want to delete them from the root of the iPod itself. I think you could do it if you could find another Mac. Not sure about using a PC, though.

Hmm,
So if I were to get in touch with somebody who had a Mac and the latest version of iTunes I would need to delete the videos from the main library instead of the playlist. I suppose I should have thought of that. When I plug my ipod into their computer initially it asks if I want to sync it to their library, I say no, and then my little iPod icon comes up in the sidebar. When I expanded it shows all my playlists but not a main library. To delete them from the iPod should I just scroll through everything until I find the videos and then just hit delete, or drag it to the trash. Is it that easy? I'll try and find somebody and give it a try. Thanks. If anyone has ideas for doing this on a PC that'd be helpful too. Thanks again.

Yes, click on the iPod icon itself in the sources list, then click on the "Size" column to make the biggest items appear at the top (these are bound to be your videos). Then select them an delete them. That should work.
