Whenever I plug my iPod into my Mac (iBook), I get a message saying, "There is a newer version, do you want to update." I select "Yes," and then get a dialog box for iPod Updater. The format (in the dialog box) indicates "Windows." And the "Update" button is grayed out and says, "Only Macintosh formatted iPods can be updated." I only work on a Mac, so how can I format my iPod for Macintosh? Should I hit the "Restore' button? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Liz.HB

Apparently your iPod was formatted for windows at some point. You can use a Windows-formatted iPod on a Mac, but you can't update it. You will have to restore it to its factory state (erasing the music on it) in order to reformat it to the Mac format.

Welcome to the MacNN Forums! What Icruise said is completely corect. If you have only a Mac (and no Windows machines) then your iPod should be formatted for Mac updates. (The "format" is simply how the device is set up to receive updates, and has nothing to do with the internal disk/flash format.) How did you get your iPod set up the way it is? Whoever set it up must have a Windows computer-they should take care of updating your iPod for you.

Very Strange. My iPod was purchased from the Apple Store and has never been within 10 feet of a PC. But, thanks for the info, I will Restore and see what happens.
